Summit Technology Academy

Visit Summit Technology Academy (STA), a career-focused academy that prepares students for tomorrow's high-wage, high-demand workforce.  It is located at the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC), a cutting-edge facility similar to today's top collaborative workplaces.  STA shares this facility with the University of Central Missouri--Lee's Summit, creating a professional collegiate atmosphere for students from 30 high schools.

The MIC program is a partnership between UCM, Metropolitan Community Colleges, Lee's Summit R-7 School District and over 55 area business partners. It is designed to accelerate students to a BS degree 2 years after high school graduation, provide a 3-year paid internship, and reduce student debt by paying their first 2 years of college tuition.

12 Tested Strategies for Developing a Career Pathways System

To develop a local or regional Pathways System, leaders from education, business and community-based organizations come together to explore and build common vision and action strategies for career-connected learning.

During this pre-conference workshop, Hans Meeder from the National Center for College and Career Transitions will help you understand the essential tools and processes to get a pathways initiative started or re-booted. 

During the workshop, Mr. Meeder will introduce the key components of a pathways system and walk through the 12-step process utilized in NC3T’s newly published Pathways System Decision Guide.  The Decision Guide addresses steps to:

  • Identify local assets and gaps and assess regional workforce needs,

  • Form a community-wide leadership structure,

  • Create shared vision, mission and goals,

  • Develop a series of high-quality pathway programs of study,

  • Engage the business community, and

  • Develop an actionable phase-by-phase plan for implementation.

Attendees also receive a copy of the Pathways System Decision Guide, a value of $34.95, and a boxed lunch.
